Human capital is playing an important role in a company. It is due to human, in this case it is including the abilities and qualities of the labor, and it influences the productivity and thus profitability of the company especially a manufacture company.
Human capital is a company asset, which is not listed on company’s balance sheet. The assets in this case is including employee’s education, training, intelligence, skills, health, and other things employers value such as loyalty and punctuality.
Indonesia, as a manufacturer country for textile, furniture, and craft, absorbs a lot of Labor and automatically become livelihood for the community. This brings many benefits to them, they can learn new skills, and knowledge.
Asean Sourcing as a trading and sourcing company wants to support local manufacturers especially in Indonesia by buying products only from qualified and green companies. Earlier this year, we had a chance to interview one of our rattan lamp suppliers to see how they work and how they empower local community within their company. Let’s jump into our chit chat to know more about our qualified supplier!
Yani, as the owner of the company, told us she started this company in 2003 with her husband. At first, the business was a repair shop and not engaged in furniture or décor industry at all. However, they saw an opportunity in making home décor from rattan because Indonesia is rich of this natural resource, so that raw material will not become a problem.
Now their business has transformed into a fully décor and furniture production facility with around thirty staffs helping them to produce the natural lamps.
“Most of my staffs are my family. At first the purpose to build this business was to helping others. So, I started it with my inner circle, my family. I want all of my family members to have skills that will be useful for their life. Besides, I want to empower people by giving them an opportunity to learn a new knowledge on how to make a home décor, especially rattan lamp” Yani told us.
Furthermore, Yani also has a commitment to the environment. She wants her business not to harm Mother Nature. This also became her strong reason why she engaged in rattan décor industry.
“We take a lot from nature, air, water, food, and many more, and this time we want to take care our nature by doing business using a natural material and avoid using machine in making it, or in other word handmade.”
